Friday – Talking Revive NWI and Congressman Viscloscky Visits

Friday, May 29 will be a busy day with many visitors to the WITW studio. We’ll kick off the morning with RG making a long-awaited return (if only awaited by him) to the big chair as he will visit with Kyle Felke, pastor with Bethel, Valparaiso, and one of the folks helping to get the word out about Revive Northwest Indiana. That conversation will begin around 8am.  At 9am, Frank will have his weekly Vislosky2007.jpgconversation with Edwin and Carolyn.

Then just after noon, RG will have an casual conversation with our congressman, Representative Pete Visclosky. It will be a short visit as he dashes between appointments in a busy schedule that includes a groundbreaking and visit to a local shelter.

We are pleased the Congressman found some time to meet with us during this trip and look forward to learning about what is happening in DC that may  effect The Region.

Don Quijote Buffet Benefit for Homeless December 7

Sunday, December 7 from noon to 5pm, Carlos Rivero continues a nearly three decade old tradition with the Restaurante don Quijote buffet benefit this year to benefit Housing Opportunities. Carlos and his staff prepare and serve a tremendous buffet featuring a variety of traditional don Quiojote items and some specials for this event. Don Quijote donates the food and its staff donate their time so all the money raised can benefit Housing Opportunities.

Additionally support to make the event happen is provided by the Valpo High School Spanish Club. Leading up to the event they sell tickets and talk to area merchants to collect items for the silent auction, door prizes, and raffles. At the event, they host, serve, clear tables, and sell tickets for the raffles.

Since Carlos started this event in the 1990’s, it has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to help homeless families in Porter County.

Tickets for the event are available at Restaurante don Quijote. Each $35 ticket includes the buffet, entertainment, entry into the door prize drawing, and the chance to participate in the silent auctions and raffle.

The event provides a wonderful portrait of our community coming together to share a meal, some fellowship, and help the homeless in our community.

Redefined by Grace Women’s Conference

3rd Annual Women's event this year with the theme "Healed to Serve"
3rd Annual Women’s event this year with the theme “Healed to Serve”

Tuesday morning (Sept. 10 – with a replay in the evening and probably on Thursday morning, too) one of WITW’s founders, Donna Rice, visited to share information about the 3rd Annual Redefined by Grace conference.  Part of the exciting news about the conference for this year is the fact that Altitude Church in Wanatah will be hosting!

Altitude is one of WITW’s supporters and another calling on Cliff and Donna Rice’s hearts as they have lead the effort to bring back to life a church which has more than 120 years of history in the building.  The traditional old, white country church is anything but old and traditional on Sunday mornings and in its ministry outreach.

Hosting the Redefined by Grace conference joins Altitude’s hosting of the Kairos Prison Ministry and support for GenderSave, a ministry to help save the lives of young and unborn girls in India.

The conference is open to all women interested in being renewed and recharge to serve in God’s Kingdom plans.

Hacker Recovery

Almost 2 weeks ago, WITW was collateral damage in a hacker’s attack on a server at Rice & Rice Attorneys. The attack didn’t directly hit WITW, but due to some of the network linkages, we believe the additional strain caused our very old, very key production computer to suffer a hard drive failure. Fortunately, it didn’t impact our on-air computer, but it eliminated our ability to create new, daily program logs – the element that tells the air computer what to play when.

We are in the process of installing a new system for both air and production which, when completed, will give us some new functionality including a dramatically improved online presence.

In the short term, we are playing previous days’ logs to keep music playing. It may be imperceptible to most, until you hear a promo for something that already happened. We appreciate your understanding and grace during this period.

We’ll update here and on-air to let everyone know when we complete the transition.

Thanks for your prayers and support-
